Story of the Rise Above Design

Single-use plastics have assimilated their way into our daily lives. Produced by fossil fuels and a major waste contributor, these plastics are harming our planet. Hawaii has a special display of the issue in the form of nurdles, a very small pellet of plastic which serves as raw material in the manufacture of plastic products. These tiny colorful plastics, shipped by barge boats, spill over and end up in the sand. They are are a common sight on the east facing shores in Hawaii.

The problem has manifested in so many different ways but stem from a common way of thinking about waste. Inspired by the idea of sustainability & meaningful living, the Rise Above design was created to bring awareness to the far-reaching issue of plastic pollution and single-use plastics. Rising above a throw away lifestyle can change the world and protect our oceans for future generations.

Proceeds from the Rise Above t-shirt design go to support Surfrider Foundation Oahu Chapter. This powerful network has been instrumental in implementing solutions and creating positive momentum towards a sustainable future for the island of Oahu. In the winter of 2019, Honolulu signed into law the strongest and most comprehensive plastic bans in the country.
