“Look at how cute you are!”

Have you ever seen an avocado seedling? They are truly adorable.

The avocado seedlings perched on my kitchen window sill bring me joy daily. Avocado seedlings are easy to sprout, a nice way to decorate a space and fun way to give back to mother nature. To watch them grow and evolve from meager pits into little trees has made me reconsider what we as a society considers trash and importance role agriculture plays in our daily lives.

The more avocado seedlings I sprouted, the more my interest grew in sustainable farming and the people working with nature to produce our food.

The "Slow & Grow” design is inspired by slow growing avocado seedlings and is meant to inspire a horticulturist mindset.

Avocado trees, from seed to bearing fruit, take about 20 years. Slow growing avocado trees might take a while to grow to maturity but when they do, they’re fruit is revered by many. Exemplifying the idea, greatness takes time.

Proceeds from the Slow & Grow Design go to support efforts of the Oahu Resource Conservation & Development Council. O'ahu RC&D is a non-profit that collaborates with a myriad of local organizations in the State of Hawaii promoting wise stewardship of island resources. They help local farmers in many ways including through the Hawai’i Women Farmers Network (WFN). The WFN connects women producers and ag professionals regionally and across the islands. The network aims to strengthen local agriculture through collaboration and facilitate farmer-to-farmer learning through workshops, video profiles, online tools and social media campaigns.
